Past Projects

Blood Drive

NAN hosted a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross on November 25th, 2018 at Sri Siddhi Vinayaka Temple in Durham, NC. The blood drive was a great success as 61 individual donors were recruited from whom 35 pints of blood were collected, surpassing our goal of 25 pints.

The community partners Amazon, Persis Indian Restaurant, Patel Brother - Indian Grocery Store, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ Donuts were recruited to provide incentives in the form of $5 gift cards, donuts, and coffee.

Board Game Project

Children with cystic fibrosis have their own dedicated game room in the UNC Children’s Hospital. The games in this room require special measures such as lamination to meet disease prevention protocols. The result is that CF patients are often frustrated that they do not have as many game options as the other inpatient children. As an organization, we decided to make a change.

Members of NAN collected many children’s and young adult books, along with various board games. A few of the board games and books were laminated to be donated to the CF play area. The rest of the supplies were donated to the UNC Children’s Hospital unit 5.

Katherine Hanley Family Shelter

Homelessness remains a problem in the United States.

More than a half-million Americans experienced homelessness last year, and some 1.5 million people sought some sort of emergency shelter or housing relief over that same period, says the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

And while the holidays are a warm, loving time for so many people, they are especially hard on people who lack stable, affordable housing for both emotional and physical reasons. It’s draining to have to face the coming cold when you would much rather be around a dinner table with loved ones.

So, this holiday season we were fortunate enough to donate to the Katherine Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax, Virginia.

NC Farms

In a collaborative effort to enhance community well-being, Nurturing Across Nations has joined forces with NC Farms, focusing on spreading vital knowledge about nutrition, hygiene, menstruation, and COVID-19. This partnership has been instrumental in developing educational programs that offer accessible information to individuals worldwide, aiming to empower communities with the tools needed for healthier lives. Together, they have also played a pivotal role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by assembling and distributing care packages to those in need, ensuring essential health and safety supplies reach the most vulnerable.

Building on their commitment to accessible healthcare, the partnership successfully helped establish a mobile clinic with Campbell University, bringing medical services directly to underserved areas. This initiative not only expands access to healthcare but also strengthens the community’s trust in medical services, marking a significant step forward in our collective fight against health disparities. Through these efforts, Nurturing Across Nations and NC Farms demonstrate the profound impact of collaboration in fostering healthier, well-informed communities across the globe.
